Professional Learning Funding provided by Manitoba Education - Please provide details below
1)To date, how have you used the money your division received for K-8 teachers' LwICT professional learning in 2008-09 and 2009-10?
Fund Divisional PD sessions -release time for 3 sessions/ year (full day) (each school sends an allocated # of Staff- roughly 20 Staff / session) It is a 2 year commitment for each teacher.
Fund 'Tech Teacher' mentor time in each school is included in the division staffing budget
2) What professional learning is occurring now because of the extra funding that you previously not able to do?
an extra cohort of teachers is being trained with 3 sessions / year
teachers are mentoring each other - ripple effect has developed
3) Does your division have any strategies for ongoing professional learning (For example: Professional Learning Community - online, face-to-face, mentors, etc?)
The division has reconducted a survey from gr. 2 to 12, (one was done 5 years ago) to see what students were able to do, what they were using and how they were using technology (home & school), what tech. was available at home, applications being used at school, attitudes, and ethics.
This survey allows us to plan for future professional learning, which will make it's way to the classroom.
This survey keeps us accountable and helps to show the Division / Trustees what kind of effect the $ is having on our students learning.
Professional learning will be an element of the new long term technlology plan for Prairie Rose.
4) What successful strategies would you like to recommend to other divisions?
LwICT mentoring sessions - giving those teachers time to work with Staffs, and students.
LwICT training sessions are very important, the 2 yr. commitment allows teachers time to use what they have learned, give feedback, ask for more PD and begin to mentor their colleagues.
Providing the hardware - projectors, lap tops for all teachers, small stations / computer pods in the classrooms.
